We have some proud winners at < The Treasures of the Texas Coast art competition>. This is held all across the state of Texas, and over 3200 entries from grades K to 6 are submitted every year. This competition encourages schoolchildren to learn more about the Texas coast and express what they’ve learned through their art.
From this very competitive competition, only 40 winners are chosen, and 3 of them are our DAS students:
Sophia Lai (K-2), Mabel Dowell (6th), and Abigail Kim (6th).
The winners all received a ticket to the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi, a ticket to the Houston zoo, two all-day passes to Waterpark in New Braunfels, and prizes and a certificate of recognition from the Texas General Land Office and a calendar displaying the winning artwork. The winning artworks will be on display in the South Central Gallery at the state capitol May 23rd to May 30th. The winning artwork will appear together in a 2018 calendar, which will be distributed throughout the state. We had a Grand Prize winner few years ago as well.
We are very proud of the 3 winners, and congratulations once again!
